The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a professional American football team based in Tampa, Florida. The Buccaneers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league's National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The club joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team, along with the Seattle Seahawks, and played its first season in the American Football Conference (AFC) West division. Prior to the 1977 season, Tampa Bay switched conferences and divisions with Seattle, becoming a member of the NFC Central division. As a result of the league's realignment prior to the 2002 season, the Buccaneers joined three former NFC West teams to form the NFC South. The club is owned by the Glazer family and plays its home games at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Lee Roy Selmon was an American professional football player who was a defensive end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football as a defensive tackle at the University of Oklahoma, the youngest of three brothers to play football there.

Barrett Benjamin Smith is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) who played 42 games for the Green Bay Packers. In 1973, the Green Bay Packers used the 21st pick in the 1st round of the 1973 NFL Draft to sign Smith out of the Florida State University. Smith went on to play for three seasons with the Packers and one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith retired from the NFL in 1976. On November 2, 2022, Barry was enshrined into the Florida Sports Hall Of Fame with fellow Seminole, and Buccaneer, Dexter Jackson.

The 1976 National Football League (NFL) expansion draft was held March 30–31, 1976. The expansion teams, the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, each selected 39 players from the other 26 NFL teams. Before the draft, each of the existing NFL teams was allowed to protect 29 players from selection by the expansion teams. When one player was chosen from an existing team, that team was then permitted to protect two additional players. The expansion teams continued until three players had been picked from each of the existing teams.

Charles Douglas Davis is a former American football running back for the Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). A 1974 NFL Draft choice from the University of Colorado, he rushed 72 times for 375 yards and caught 19 passes for 171 yards as a rookie, but suffered a preseason knee injury that prevented him from playing in 1975. In 1976, he was traded to the expansion Buccaneers for a future draft choice, which turned out to be a 1977 fourth-rounder. Davis scored the Buccaneers' first-ever offensive touchdown, a 1-yard run in week 4 of the 1976 season against the Baltimore Colts, but later suffered another knee injury and spent the remainder of the 1976 season and the 1977 season on injured reserve.
