Finalists for Best Documentary (Short Subject) are selected by the Documentary Branch based on a preliminary ballot. A second preferential ballot determines the five nominees. [1] These are the additional films that were shortlisted.

The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling is the Academy Award given to the best achievement in makeup and hairstyling for film. Buzkashi Boys is a 2012 film, co-produced in Afghanistan and the United States. It was nominated for the 2013 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

<i>The Testimony</i> (2015 film) 2015 Democratic Republic of the Congo film

The Testimony is a 2015 American short-documentary film about the "Minova Trial", conducted in 2014 by the army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to prosecute government troops' rapes and atrocities committed against women in Minova in 2012. It was the largest rape trial in DRC history.

Brillo Box is a 2016 documentary short film directed and written by Lisanne Skyler. It is produced by Sheila Nevins, Tristine Skyler and Judith Black under HBO Documentary Films. The film revolves around the Brillo Box soap pads, that was designed by pop art icon Andy Warhol and was sold for $3 million at Christie's auction having been refused by companies forty-year earlier.

Animation historian Jerry Beck had posted on Cartoon Research lists of animated shorts from various studios considered for nomination of the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, beginning with 1948 and ending for the time being with 1986.

The Speed Cubers is a 2020 documentary on the lives of speedcubing champions Max Park and Feliks Zemdegs directed by Sue Kim.

Vanessa Block is an American film director, screenwriter and producer. She is known for the 2021 film Pig starring Nicolas Cage, Alex Wolff, and Adam Arkin; as well as The Testimony, which was shortlisted with ten other documentaries from 74 entries submitted to the 88th Academy Awards in Documentary Short Subject category. Block co-wrote Pig with director Michael Sarnoski, as well as produced through her production company, BlockBox Entertainment.
