The Taiyuan Metro is a rapid transit system in Taiyuan, capital of China's Shanxi province. The system opened on December 26, 2020. [2]

History

The Taiyuan Metro project was officially launched in September 2009, with the establishment of the Taiyuan Metro Preparation Office. The office prepared the construction proposal and network plan, which after being approved by the Taiyuan city government were sent to the central government for approval. [4] The National Development and Reform Commission approved the first phase of the proposal (2012−18) on 5 September 2012, [5] and construction of Line 2 began on 2 November 2013. [6]

Lines in Operation

Line 2

Line 2 was the first line to be built and opened on December 26, 2020. [2] It crosses the main urban area of Taiyuan in a north-south direction. Construction began on 2 November 2013. The first phase consists of 23 stations [7] and 23.647 kilometres (14.694 mi) [7] of track between Xiqiao Station in the south and Jiancaoping Station in the north. The line uses 24 six-car Type A automated trains. [8]

Under Construction

Line 1

Line 1 is the next line scheduled for construction. The planned route runs between Xishan Mining Bureau Station to Wusu Airport Station, [9] and passes high traffic areas such as Taiyuan West Bus Station, Taiyuan University of Technology, Great South Gate, Wuyi Square, and Taiyuan Railway Station. Line 1 will consist of 24 underground stations [9] and 28.575 kilometres (17.756 mi) [9] of track. Construction started on December 30, 2019. [3] It is projected to be completed in 2024. [3]

Future Development

Six more lines are being planned, and by 2030, the network is expected to comprise seven lines with a total length of 233.6 kilometres (145.2 mi) [6] and 150 stations. [5]

The entire network is scheduled to be built in three phases lasting 17 years. [6] The first phase, consisting of Line 1 and Line 2, with a combined 49.2 kilometres (30.6 mi) of track, is to be built from 2013 to 2020. This phase is projected to cost 30.9 billion yuan to build, or 628 million yuan per kilometre. [5] During the second phase, from 2018 to 2020, Line 3, Line 4, and the second phase of Line 2 are expected to be completed, extending the network to 116.2 kilometres (72.2 mi). The rest of the network is planned to be built between 2020 and 2030, completing the 233.6-kilometre (145.2 mi) network. [6]

The Metro opened for commercial operation in December 2015. The network is currently 128.3 km in length in December 2021 with 4 lines. A total length of 163 km of network is planned, with Line 5 which is currently under planning.

Xiamen Metro Rapid transit system in Xiamen, China

Line 10 (Shenzhen Metro)

Line 10, also known as the Bantian line of the Shenzhen Metro began construction at the end of 2015. The line opened on 18 August 2020. Line 10 has a length of 29.3 km (18.2 mi) and a total of 24 stations. It connects the Futian Checkpoint to Shuangyong Street. In the southern terminus of the line, a 555 meters long and 50.5 meters wide double deck underground depot capable of storing 16 trains will be constructed.

Line 18 (Chengdu Metro)

Line 18 of the Chengdu Metro is an express rapid transit line that connects the urban area of Chengdu with Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. Line 18's color is teal. The Phase 1 & 2 of Line 18 is in total 69.39 km in length. It is also the biggest PPP project in China. The section from South Railway Station to Tianfu International Airport North Station started operation on 18 December 2020.

Luoyang Subway

Luoyang Subway is a metro network serving urban and suburban districts of Luoyang. It is the second metro system in Henan Province, as well as the first metro system in a city that is not a provincial capital in central and western China.

Shaoxing Metro

Shaoxing Metro, also known as Shaoxing Rail Transit, is the metro system in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, China.

The Line 2 of Taiyuan Metro is the first line in Taiyuan, as well as the first line in Shanxi. The line opened on December 26, 2020.
