The Asia Group (TAG) is a strategic advisory firm based in Washington DC. [1] The firm was founded in 2013 by Kurt Campbell, the former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs [2] and Nirav Patel, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Strategy and Multilateral Affairs. [3]

On June 21, 2017, TAG announced that former US Ambassador to India Richard Verma would be joining the firm as its Vice Chairman. [4] In 2019, the former U.S. consul general in Hong Kong, Kurt Tong joined the firm as partner. [5] [6]

Richard Rahul Verma is an Indian-American diplomat, who serves as the deputy secretary of state for management and resources, a position he has held since April 5, 2023. He served as the assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs from 2009 to 2011, and as the U.S. ambassador to India from 2014 to 2017. He served as the chief legal officer and head of global public policy at Mastercard, from 2020 to 2023, and as the vice chair of the Asia Group from 2017 to 2020, where he oversaw the firm's South Asia practice. He also practiced law for many years at Steptoe & Johnson LLP in Washington DC, and served as a Senior Counselor and Lead of the India and South Asia practice at Albright Stonebridge Group.

He arrived in Hong Kong on August 27, 2016, to assume his position as the Consul General.
