Walker Thomas (born August 13,1963) is an American politician who has served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from the 8th district since 2017. [1] [2] He was first elected in 2016,defeating incumbent representative Jeffrey R. Taylor. Thomas had previously lost a special election to Taylor earlier that year.
On February 23,2022,the Lexington Herald-Leader reported that during a committee meeting,Thomas and committee chair Sen. Rick Girdler made use of the anti-Semitic phrase "Jew them down" to refer to bargaining for a lower price on a $1 lease. [3] According to the story,after a presentation about the lease,which was necessary due to recent storms,Walker had been picked up on a hot mic laughing and asking if the state could "jew them down on the price." Girdler repeated the question and then paused,and said,“That ain’t the right word to use. ‘Drop them down,’I guess.” [4] Thomas later apologized,saying that the remark was "not who he was",and wasn't intended to offend anyone in the Jewish community.
The Kentucky General Assembly,also called the Kentucky Legislature,is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Kentucky. It comprises the Kentucky Senate and the Kentucky House of Representatives.
The Kentucky House of Representatives is the lower house of the Kentucky General Assembly. It is composed of 100 Representatives elected from single-member districts throughout the Commonwealth. Not more than two counties can be joined to form a House district,except when necessary to preserve the principle of equal representation. Representatives are elected to two-year terms with no term limits. The Kentucky House of Representatives convenes at the State Capitol in Frankfort.
Augustus Owsley Stanley I was an American politician from Kentucky. A member of the Democratic Party,he served as the 38th governor of Kentucky and also represented the state in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. From 1903 to 1915,Stanley represented Kentucky's 2nd congressional district in the House of Representatives,where he gained a reputation as a progressive reformer. Beginning in 1904,he called for an antitrust investigation of the American Tobacco Company,claiming they were a monopsony that drove down prices for the tobacco farmers of his district. As a result of his investigation,the Supreme Court of the United States ordered the breakup of the American Tobacco Company in 1911. Stanley also chaired a committee that conducted an antitrust investigation of U.S. Steel,which brought him national acclaim. Many of his ideas were incorporated into the Clayton Antitrust Act.
Jordan Palmer is an American social activist,Kentucky politician,civil rights activist,entrepreneur,and the founder of the Kentucky Equality Federation. Palmer is from Hazard,Kentucky and is credited for having Kentucky Constitutional Amendment 1,being struck down by a Kentucky judge,pushing the first hate crime convictions under the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act,and holding the first equality protests against a sitting governor and members of the Kentucky House of Representatives. Palmer was the first openly gay person to run for the Kentucky Senate.

From the year 1987 to 2012,Williams represented Senate District 16,a position he secured upon the retirement of fellow Republican Doug Moseley. When Republicans gained control of the state senate in 2000,Williams was chosen as President of the Senate,and held that post continuously until his resignation in November 2012. In September 2010,he announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor in the 2011 gubernatorial election. However,he lost the general election by twenty points to incumbent Democratic Governor Steve Beshear. In November 2012,Williams resigned his Senate seat to accept a circuit court judgeship.

Abortion is illegal in Kentucky. There were laws in Kentucky about abortion by 1900,including ones with therapeutic exceptions. In 1998,the state passed legislation that required clinics to have an abortion clinic license if they wanted to operate. By the early 2010s,members of the Kentucky Legislature attempted to ban abortion in almost all cases and had also introduced the early abortion bans. Prior to 2019,Kentucky law prohibited abortions after week 22. This changed when the state legislature passed a law that moved the prohibition to week 6 in the early part of the year. A bill passed and made effective in April 2022 lowered the threshold to 15 weeks,the second most restrictive limit in effect in the United States behind Texas,and introduced regulations that made abortion illegal until it was blocked in federal court.
