The Xiangjiang New Area (Chinese :湘江新区; pinyin :Xiāngjiāng xīnqū) is a new area at state level in Changsha City, Hunan Province, China. The new area was created on 8 April 2015, it is the 12th state-level new area approved to establish by the State Council. Xiangjiang New Area is located in the west of the Xiang River and covers parts of Yuelu, Wangcheng and Ningxiang. According to the official reply of the State Council, the new area has an area of 490 km2 (190 sq mi). [1] The Hunan CPC Party Secretary Xu Shousheng and Hunan Governor Du Jiahao attended the opening ceremony of the new area held in Changsha, 24 May 2015. [2]

Simplified Chinese characters are standardized Chinese characters prescribed in the Table of General Standard Chinese Characters for use in mainland China. Along with traditional Chinese characters, they are one of the two standard character sets of the contemporary Chinese written language. The government of the People's Republic of China in mainland China has promoted them for use in printing since the 1950s and 1960s to encourage literacy. They are officially used in the People's Republic of China and Singapore.

Hanyu Pinyin, often abbreviated to pinyin, is the official romanization system for Standard Chinese in mainland China and to some extent in Taiwan. It is often used to teach Standard Mandarin Chinese, which is normally written using Chinese characters. The system includes four diacritics denoting tones. Pinyin without tone marks is used to spell Chinese names and words in languages written with the Latin alphabet, and also in certain computer input methods to enter Chinese characters.

The new areas or new districts of the People's Republic of China are new urban districts that are given special economic and development support by the central government or regional government. New areas are divided into two varieties: administrative or management and further divided into levels: state-level, provincial-level, and prefectural-level.

In 2015, Xiangjiang New Area covers a Built-up area of 126 square kilometres (49 sq mi), it has a population of rough 1,340,000, its GDP reaches CNY 160.25 billion (US$25.73 billion), its GDP per capita is CNY 119,500 (US$19,186). [3]

According to the Development Planning of Xiangjiang New Area approved by the Government of Hunan Province on May 22, 2016, it has a planned area of about 1,200 square kilometres (460 sq mi) with a core zone of 490 square kilometres (190 sq mi), the planned area covers the whole Yuelu District, the total area on the south of the Wei River and the west of the Xiang River of Wangcheng District, parts of Ningxiang County. Yuelu District is one of six urban districts of Changsha City, Hunan province, China, it is the 4th most populous district in Hunan. The district is bordered to the north by Wangcheng District, to the west by Ningxiang County, to the south by Yuhu District of Xiangtan City, across the Xiang river to the west by Tianxin, Furong and Kaifu Districts. Located on the west bank of the Xiang River, as the western part of the City proper, the district is named after Mount Yuelu, one of the national parks, Yuelu District covers 538.83 km2 (208.04 sq mi) with registered population of 644,834 and resident population of 818,900. The district has 16 subdistricts and 2 towns under its jurisdiction, the government seat is at Wangyue (望岳街道).

It is the 2nd largest tributary in terms of surface runoff, the 5th largest tributary by drainage area of the Yangtze tributaries. The river flows generally northeast through Guangxi and Hunan two provinces, its tributaries reach into Jiangxi and Guangdong.

Wangcheng District is one of six urban districts of Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, China. the district is bordered to the north by Miluo City and Xiangyin County of Yueyang, to the west by Heshan District of Yiyang and Ningxiang County, to the south by Yuelu and Kaifu Districts, to the east by Changsha County. Located in the northsouth of the City proper in Changsha, Wangcheng covers 951.06 km2 (367.21 sq mi) with registered population of 560,567 and resident population of 562,100. The core zone of Xiangjiang New Area consists of most of Yuelu District, the total area on the south of the Wei River and the west of the Xiang River of Wangcheng District, Jinzhou Town of Ningxiang County.

Yanghu Wetland Park is a public wetland park in China, located at the western Changsha, Hunan. Covering an area of 0.53-square-kilometre (0.20 sq mi), the park was established in 2010 and opened to the public in 2011. Located in the subdistrict of Yanghu, Yuelu District, Yanghu Wetland Park is bordered by Jin River on the South and east, South Xiaoxiang Avenue on the West, and Yanghu Avenue on the North.
