The Zayed International Prize for the Environment is a prize awarded by the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment.

The Zayed Prize, worth 1 million US dollars is awarded every two years, in the name of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, based on stringent selection criteria.

The Zayed Prize is classified into four award categories. The recipient of the Global Leadership on the Environment component receives $USD 500,000, the recipient of the Scientific and Technological Achievement component receives $USD 250,000, and the recipient of the Environmental Action Leading to Positive Change in Society component receives $USD 200,000 and Young Scientists Award for Environmental Sustainability $USD 50,000 [1] The value of the prize is the highest of any environmental prize. [2]

The prize was established in 1999 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and was first awarded in 2001. [3] The prize was named after Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. [4]

Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Sheikh of Abu Dhabi

Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the ruler of Abu Dhabi for more than 30 years. The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) is a sovereign wealth fund owned by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi founded for the purpose of investing funds on behalf of the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It manages the Emirate's excess oil reserves, estimated to be as much as $875 billion. Its portfolio grows at an annual rate of about 10% compounded. The fund is a member of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds and is therefore signed up to the Santiago Principles on best practice in managing sovereign wealth funds.

Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi

Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, often referred to as Sheikh Mansour, is an Emirati politician who is the deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, minister of presidential affairs and member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi. He is the half brother of the current President of the UAE, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Zayed Port also called Mina Zayed, is a commercial deep-water port owned by the Abu Dhabi Ports that serves Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Established in 1968, Zayed Port is in the northeast section of Abu Dhabi city. It was officially inaugurated and became fully operational in 1972, and is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the former President of the United Arab Emirates. The transfer of Zayed Port's container traffic to the newly developed US$7.2 billion Khalifa Port container terminal was completed in 2012.

Al Nahyan family Emirati Dynasty

Al Nahyan are one of the six ruling families of the United Arab Emirates, and are based in the capital Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Al Nahyan is a branch of the House of Al Falahi, a branch of the Bani Yas tribe, and are related to the House of Al Falasi from which the ruling family of Dubai, Al Maktoum, descends. The Bani Yas came to Abu Dhabi in the 18th century from Liwa Oasis. They have ruled Abu Dhabi since 1793, and previously ruled Liwa. Five of the rulers were overthrown and eight were killed between 1793 and 1966; they were brothers. Hazza was the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.

Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the son of the founder of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and currently serves as the National Security Advisor of UAE. He has previously served as Deputy National Security Advisor in 2013.
