1979 Llanelli Borough Council election

An election to Llanelli Borough Council was held in May 1979. [1] It was preceded by the 1976 election and followed by the 1983 election. On the same day there was a UK General Election and were elections to the other local authorities and community councils in Wales. The leader of the council was again Michael Willis Gimblett, who had held the seat from the previous election.

Llanelli is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. From 1918 to 1970 the official spelling of the constituency name was Llanelly. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Since 2005, it is currently represented by Nia Griffith of the Labour Party.
