Bireuën Regency is a regency of Aceh, the westernmost province of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra, and was created on 4 October 1999 from the former western districts of North Aceh Regency. The capital is the town of Bireuën, 105 miles east of the provincial capital, Banda Aceh. The regency covers an area of 1,796.97 square kilometres and had a population of 340,271 people according to the 2000 Census; at the 2010 Census it had a population of 389,288, which had risen to 436,418 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 453,242 - comprising 224,053 males and 229,189 females. It is bordered by the Strait of Malacca on the northeast coastline. Bireuen has been affected by the clashes between the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the government, and by the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami on 26 December 2004.
West Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh special region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency formerly covered a much larger area, but on 4 October 1999 the island districts of Simeulue were separated out to form their own regency, and on 10 April 2002 two additional regencies - Aceh Jaya and Nagan Raya - were created from parts of West Aceh; the residual regency currently covers an area of 2,927.95 square kilometres and had a population of 173,558 at the 2010 Census and 198,736 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 205,108.
Gayo Lues Regency is a regency in the Aceh Special Region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency was created on 10 April 2002 under Statute UU 4/2002 from the northern part of Aceh Tenggara. Its capital is Blangkejeren. The regency covers an area of 5,549.91 square kilometres and had a population of 79,560 at the 2010 Census and 99,532 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 104,856. Along with the Central Aceh Regency and the Bener Meriah Regency, it is home to the Gayo people.
East Aceh Regency is a regency in eastern Aceh Special Region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 6,040.60 square kilometres and had a population of 360,475 at the 2010 Census and 422,401 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 449,796 - comprising 226,316 males and 223,430 females. The regency capital is the town of Idi Rayeuk.
Central Aceh Regency is a regency in Aceh Special Region of Indonesia. It is located on Sumatra island. Formerly this regency covered a much larger area; on 4 June 1974, the Southeast Aceh Regency was separated from the Central Aceh Regency, and on 18 December 2003 the Bener Meriah Regency was separated from the remaining Central Aceh Regency.
South Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. It is located on the west coast of the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 4,173.82 square kilometres and had a population of 202,251 at the 2010 Census, 224,588 in 2015 and 232,414 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 239,475 . Its population density was thus 48.5 inhabitants/km2 at the 2010 census, 53.8 inhabitants/km2 in 2015, 55.7 inhabitants/km2 at the 2020 census, and 57.4 inhabitants/km2 in mid 2023. The seat of the regency government is at Tapaktuan.
Aceh Singkil Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. It is situated largely on the island of Sumatra, but also includes the offshore Banyak Islands, the largest of which is Tuangku, with the principal town of Alaban. The regency was created on 20 April 1999 from the former southern districts of South Aceh Regency. Until 2007 it included the large town of Subulussalam, but on 2 January of that year that town was split off to become an autonomous city. The seat of the Aceh Singkil Regency government is at the port of Singkil on the Sumatra coast. The Regency now covers an area of 1,857.88 km2, and had a population of 102,509 at the 2010 Census, rising to 114,326 at the 2015 Census and to 126,514 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 135,435.
Aceh Tamiang Regency is a regency in the east of Aceh province of Indonesia, bordering on North Sumatra Province to the east. It is located on the island of Sumatra, and was formed on 10 April 2002 from what were previously the southeastern districts of East Aceh Regency. The regency covers an area of 1,957.02 square kilometres and had a population of 251,914 people at the 2010 census, 277,766 at the 2015 census and 294,356 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 305,217 - comprising 154,724 males and 150,493 females. The seat of the regency government is at the town of Karang Baru.
Southeast Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. In 1974, the Southeast Aceh Regency was created by being separated from the Central Aceh Regency; however in 2002 the northern part of this regency was itself split away to form the new Gayo Lues Regency. The regency now covers an area of 4,242.04 square kilometres and had a population of 179,010 at the 2010 census and 220,860 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 229,368. The seat of the regency government is at the town of Kutacane.
Southwest Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh Province of Indonesia. The regency was created on 10 April 2002 from the northwestern districts of South Aceh Regency. It is located on the west side of the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 1,882.99 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 126,036; this rose to 140,366 at the 2015 Census, and to 150,775 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 156,990. The seat of the regency government is the town of Blangpidie.
Pidie Jaya Regency is a regency in the Aceh Special region of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency was created out of the former northeast districts of Pidie Regency on 2 January 2007. The seat of the regency government is at the town of Meureudu. The regency covers an area of 952.11 square kilometres and had a population of 132,956 people at the 2010 Census and 158,397 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 164,361 - comprising 81,871 males and 82,490 females.
Blangpidie or Blang Pidie is a town in the Aceh province of Indonesia and it is the capital of Southwest Aceh Regency. Blangpidie is located on the west coast of Sumatra island and the main Banda Aceh — Medan road passes through the town.
Langkat Regency is the northernmost regency of North Sumatra. Its seat is Stabat. Its area is 6,263.29 km2 and its population was 967,535 at the 2010 Census and 1,030,202 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,039,926.
Central Bangka Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Indonesia. It covers an area of 2,155.77 km2 and had a population of 161,075 at the 2010 Census, rising to 198,946 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 205,510 - comprising 106,340 males and 99,170 females. Puncak Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province of Central Papua; it is not to be confused with Puncak Jaya Regency, which is within the same province, and from whose western districts those districts now forming Puncak Papua Regency were separated in 2008. It covers an area of 3,743.64 km2, and had a population of 39,537 at the 2010 Census and 50,685 at the 2020 Census. The official estimate as at mid 2022 was 51,719 - comprising 27,285 males and 24,434 females. The administrative centre is at Kobakma.
South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is an inland regency in the far south of South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. It was created on 18 December 2003 from what had previously been the southernmost districts of Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. It covers an area of 5,493.94 km2, and had a population of 318,428 at the 2010 Census and 408,981 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 426,687. The administrative centre is the town of Muaradua. It borders Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency and Muara Enim Regency to the north. It also borders Lampung Province to the south and east and Bengkulu Province to the west.
Simeulue Barat is a district of the Simeulue Regency on Simeulue in the Indonesian province of Aceh. At the 2010 Census it had a total population of 10,024 people, which by mid 2023 had grown to an officially estimate total of 12,302.
Simeulue Timur is a district of the Simeulue Regency on Simeulue island in the Indonesian province of Aceh. At the 2010 census, it had a total population of 28,931 people, living in 4,334 households in 2005. In 2020, after being reduced in 2012, it covered 175.97 km2 and had a population of 27,569 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 28,830.
Teluk Dalam is a district of the Simeulue Regency on Simeulue island in the Indonesian province of Aceh. At the 2010 Census it had a total population of 5,091 people, which by mid 2023 had increased to 5,709.
