A container ship is a cargo ship that carries all of its load in truck-size intermodal containers, in a technique called containerization. Container ships are a common means of commercial intermodal freight transport and now carry most seagoing non-bulk cargo.

The automatic identification system (AIS) is an automatic tracking system that uses transceivers on ships and is used by vessel traffic services (VTS). When satellites are used to receive AIS signatures, the term Satellite-AIS (S-AIS) is used. AIS information supplements marine radar, which continues to be the primary method of collision avoidance for water transport. Although technically and operationally distinct, the ADS-B system is analogous to AIS and performs a similar function for aircraft.

Port of Guangzhou is the main seaport of Guangzhou city, Guangdong province, China. The port is operated by Guangzhou Port Group Co. Ltd which is a state owned company. The company was established on February 26, 2004 from the former Guangzhou Harbor Bureau. It was approved by the Guangzhou Municipal Government. It is currently the largest comprehensive port in South China. Its international maritime trade reaches over 300 ports in more than 80 countries and districts worldwide. The port also incorporates the former Huangpu Port.
The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan is the busiest port in the world in terms of cargo tonnage. It handled 888.96 million tons of cargo in 2015. The port is located in Ningbo and Zhoushan, on the coast of the East China Sea, in Zhejiang province on the southeast end of Hangzhou Bay, across which it faces the municipality of Shanghai.
In 1961 China established a state-run maritime shipping company and subsequently signed shipping agreements with many countries, laying the foundation for developing the country's ocean transport. That organization developed into the present-day China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO). The Chinese government also invested heavily in water transport infrastructure, constructing new ports and rebuilding and enlarging older facilities.
Net tonnage is a dimensionless index calculated from the total moulded volume of the ship's cargo spaces by using a mathematical formula. Defined in The International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships that was adopted by the International Maritime Organization in 1969, the net tonnage replaced the earlier net register tonnage (NRT) which denoted the volume of the ship's revenue-earning spaces in "register tons", units of volume equal to 100 cubic feet (2.83 m3). Net tonnage is used to calculate the port duties and should not be taken as less than 30 per cent of the ship's gross tonnage.
NYK Vega is a container ship, operated by Nippon Yusen Ship Management. The vessel has a capacity of 8,600 containers in company calculations and 9,012 TEU in International Maritime Organization calculations. The difference comes from the use of a different method of stowing in checking the ship's stability.

The Port of Piraeus is the chief sea port of Athens, located on the Saronic Gulf on the western coasts of the Aegean Sea, the largest port in Greece and one of the largest in Europe.
MSC Daniela is the lead ship of her class of container ship operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company that at 366 metres is one of the largest container ships of the world, with a twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) cargo capacity of 14,000 containers. The building of MSC Daniela was started on 1 July 2006 and finished at the end of 2008; the ship was subsequently crowned as the largest according to cargo capacity. The shipbuilder was Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje, South Korea.
Xin Pu Yang is an oil tanker designed and built by the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. She was laid down on 8 September 2008, launched on 19 June 2009 and completed on 7 January 2010. With a deadweight tonnage of 309,362 tons and a gross tonnage of 161,488 she was at the time of her completion the largest tanker built in China. She is 333 meters long and 60 meters wide.
Cosco Hellas is a container ship owned by Caravokyra Maritime Corp and operated by Costamare Shipping. Its port of registry is Piraeus, Greece. Cosco Hellas is a sister ship of the COSCO Beijing. Cosco Hellas has three other sisters: Cosco Ningbo, Cosco Yantian and Cosco Guangzhou. Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis said on July 28, 2006, during the christening ceremony for the Chinese-leased container ship in Piraeus, that the Cosco Hellas emphasized the close bonds of friendship between the Greek and Chinese peoples in the best possible way.
COSCO Glory is a container ship. She was built in 2011 by Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea and is owned by Seaspan and has been chartered on a 12-year, fixed-rate time charter to the German branch of Cosco Container Lines Europe, starting on June 10, 2011. Cosco Container Lines is now part of COSCO Shipping Lines.
Oil discharge monitoring equipment (ODME) is based on a measurement of oil content in the ballast and slop water, to measure conformance with regulations. The apparatus is equipped with a GPS, data recording functionality, an oil content meter and a flow meter. By use of data interpretation, a computing unit will be able to allow the discharge to continue or it will stop it using a valve outside the deck.
MV Xin Guang Hua is a semi-submersible heavy-lift ship operated by COSCO Shipping. She is the largest Chinese vessel of her type and the second-largest in the world, exceeded only by BOKA Vanguard.
