Funmi Fadoju (born 15 August 2002) is an English netball player, who has represented the national team since 2022, and was a member of the England team that came second at the 2023 Netball World Cup. At club level, Fadoju plays for London Pulse in the Netball Superleague.

Early life

Fadoju is from Dagenham, London. [1] She attended Eastbury Community School, and won a schools cross-country competition in 2017. [2]

Club career

Fadoju is 1.76 metres (5.8 ft) tall, which is comparatively short for a defender. [3] [4] She made her Netball Superleague debut for London Pulse in March 2020; she came on in the third quarter of Pulse's opening match of the season. [5] She won the Netball Superleague Young Player of the Season award in both 2021 and 2022 seasons. [6] Fadoju once played a whole match with a headphone in by accident. [7]

International career

Fadoju represented England under-21s at the 2019 Netball Europe Under-21 Championships. [8] She was aged 16 at the time. [9]

Fadoju received her first senior callup for the 2021 Vitality Roses Reunited Series, [9] and made her debut for the senior team in their 2022 series against Uganda. [3] She was not selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. [3] She played for England in their tour of Australia. [4] [6] In the final game of the series, she was the player of the match with 17 deflections. [4] In December 2022, Netball Scoop named Fadoju joint sixth in their list of world's best players. [4] [3] Fadoju was selected for the 2023 Netball World Cup, and played in the final, where England lost to Australia. She did not play in the 2023 Taini Jamison Trophy Series, but returned to the squad for their December 2023 series against South Africa. [7]

Chelsea Pitman is an Australian-born netball player who represented the England National Netball Team internationally until 18 September 2023. She is currently contracted as a training partner for the West Coast Fever playing in the Suncorp Super Netball competition in Australia. West Coast Fever has just became premiers after winning the Suncorp Super Netball League 2022. She is predominantly a wing attack, but can also play goal attack.

Stacey Francis-Bayman is a former England netball international. Beth Cobden is an England netball international. She was a member of the England teams that won gold medals at the 2017 Fast5 Netball World Series and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. At club level, she was a member of the Northern Thunder/Manchester Thunder teams that won Netball Superleague titles in 2012 and 2014. She also played in two grand finals for Loughborough Lightning which won their first ever Superleague title in 2021. In 2019 she signed for Adelaide Thunderbirds of Suncorp Super Netball.

Natalie Metcalf is an English netball player. She was part of the England squad that won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She was appointed captain of the England team in 2022 and led them to their first Netball World Cup final a year later, where they finished runner up to Australia.

London Pulse is an English netball team based at the Copper Box Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, London. Since 2019 their senior team has played in the Netball Superleague.

Eleanor Cardwell is an English international netball player. Layla Guscoth is an England netball international. She was a member of the England squad that won a bronze medal at the 2019 Netball World Cup. At club level, Guscoth has played for Loughborough Lightning, Hertfordshire Mavericks and Team Bath in the Netball Superleague and for Adelaide Thunderbirds in Suncorp Super Netball. She was a member of the Mavericks team that won the 2011 Netball Superleague. She has captained both Mavericks and Thunderbirds. In 2016 she qualified as a doctor.

The 2021 Netball Superleague season was the sixteenth season of the Netball Superleague, the elite domestic netball competition in the United Kingdom. The season started on 12 February 2021. Manchester Thunder were the defending champions, as they won the 2019 season and the 2020 season was cancelled after three rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the ongoing pandemic, the first nine weeks of matches were held at Studio 001 in Wakefield, and the remaining matches were held at the Copper Box Arena in London. All matches were originally scheduled to be held behind closed doors, though from week 17 onwards, limited numbers of fans were permitted into matches, due to a change in the UK Government guidelines.

The England national netball team played a three-match test series against an All-Stars team made up of players from the Superleague competition in the United Kingdom. The series took place between 20 and 24 January 2021 and replaced a previously scheduled series between England and Jamaica, which was cancelled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The three matches were played behind closed doors at the David Wallace Arena in Loughborough. The series was won by England, who defeated the All-Stars three games to nil, and in so doing won the Jean Hornsby Cup.

Lefébre Rademan is a South African netball player, who has represented the national team. At club level, she plays for Severn Stars in the British Netball Superleague (NSL), and has previously played for Celtic Dragons and London Pulse in the NSL, as well as Free State Crinums in the South African Netball League.

Sophie Drakeford-Lewis is an English netball player who plays for Surrey Storm and has represented the national team. She has previously played for Saracens Mavericks and Team Bath, and was awarded the Young Player of the Season Award for the 2019 Netball Superleague season. As a youngster, Drakeford-Lewis played tennis, and she was at one time the highest ranked Briton at under-16 and under-18 level.

The 2022 Netball Superleague season was the seventeenth season of the Netball Superleague, the elite domestic netball competition in the United Kingdom. Loughborough Lightning were the defending champions, as they won the 2021 season. The season began on 5 February, and ended with the grand final on 5 June.

Laura Malcolm is an English netball player who has been a co-captain of the national team. At club level, she plays for Mainland Tactix in the ANZ Premiership, and has previously played for Netball Superleague teams Manchester Thunder and Severn Stars.

Imogen Allison is an English netball player, who has represented the national side since 2020. At club level, she is the captain of Team Bath and has previously played for Yorkshire Jets.
