HNLMS Urania (Dutch : Zr.Ms. Urania) is a naval training ship of the Dutch Navy and is used to train future Adelborsten from the Royal Naval College. [1]

History

When the old HNLMS Urania had a hole punched in the hull she needed to be replaced. Due to budget cuts this was not an option so the navy opted for an extensive refit. During this refit it was uncovered that most of the ship was being held together with putty. Olivier F. van Meer was charged with the design of the new ship that had to resemble the old Urania at a distance. The keel was laid in 2003 at De Gier & Bezaan Int. in Enkhuizen and in mid-2003 the hull was moved to Den Helder for fitting out by the navy.

Eventually she was launched on 18 May 2004, and commissioned a week later. Some parts of the old Urania were used in the construction of the new one. For example the old stern was fitted to the new ship but in the end was removed again in favour of a new stern. The only remaining bit from the old Uranina being the wheel. [1]

HNLMS Schorpioen is a Schorpioen-class monitor built in France for the Royal Netherlands Navy in the 1860s. These new ships were equipped with heavy rifled 23 cm (9 in) guns, and a heavy armor. The hull had an armor plated belt of 15 cm (6 in) and the gun turret, housing the two guns, had almost 30 cm (12 in) of armor.

BAP <i>Almirante Grau</i> (CLM-81) De Zeven Provinciën-class cruiser

BAPAlmirante Grau(CLM-81) is a De Zeven Provinciën-class cruiser that served in the Dutch and Peruvian navies. Completed for the Dutch in 1953 as HNLMS De Ruyter (C801), she was acquired by Peru in 1973 and served as fleet flagship. Almirante Grau underwent a major modernization program between 1985 and 1988 during which she was fitted with new weapons and electronics. She was the last gun cruiser in service in any navy before being decommissioned on 26 September 2017. In 2019, it was to be said that she would be preserved as a museum ship. However, it was later announced on 14 February 2022 that the ship would put up for sale with an asking price of 4,180,000 soles.

HNLMS Tromp (F803) is the second De Zeven Provinciën-class frigate of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The ship was laid down in 1999, launched in 2001, and commissioned in 2003. The frigate is named after Dutch naval heroes Maarten Tromp (1598–1653) and Cornelis Tromp (1629–1691).

HNLMS De Ruyter is a De Zeven Provinciën-class frigate of the Royal Netherlands Navy. She was laid down in 2000, launched in 2002, and commissioned in 2004, the third ship of her class to enter service. The frigate is named after Dutch admiral Michiel de Ruyter (1607–1676).

The ship replaced both of the navy's replenishment oilers: HNLMS Zuiderkruis and HNLMS Amsterdam. At 204.7 metres (672 ft) she is the largest ship in service in the Netherlands navy.

HNLMS <i>Prins Hendrik der Nederlanden</i>

HNLMS Prins Hendrik der Nederlanden was an ironclad ramtorenschip built in Great Britain for the Royal Netherlands Navy in the mid-1860s. She was transferred to the Dutch East Indies in 1876 and participated in the Dutch intervention in Lombok and Karangasem in 1894. The ship was hulked in 1899 and scrapped in 1925.
