The Jubilee Alliance was a political alliance in Kenya.

History

The alliance was established to support the joint presidential election ticket of Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto in the 2013 general elections. At the time of the election, its members were The National Alliance, the National Rainbow Coalition, the United Republican Party, and the Republican Congress. [1] [2] Machel Waikenda was the director of communications and secretary of arts and entertainment of The National Alliance, from April 2012 to August 2013 and he led the media and communications department of the party during the 2013 elections. [3]

In 2016 most of the coalition's members merged to form the Jubilee Party.

Uhuru Kenyatta President of Kenya (2013-present)

William Ruto

William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto is a Kenyan politician and the Deputy President of Kenya since 2013. He served as the Acting President of Kenya between 6 and 8 October 2014 when President Uhuru Kenyatta was at the International Criminal Court (ICC), in the Hague, Netherlands. He previously served in various ministerial positions, including the Ministries of Home Affairs, Agriculture, and Higher Education Science and Technology. He was the Secretary General of the Kenya Africa National Union (KANU), the former ruling political party, and the MP for Eldoret North Constituency between December 1997 and January 2013. He won the seat in the 1997 elections after defeating Reuben Chesire. He was appointed to the position of Assistant Minister in the Office of the President by President Daniel arap Moi in 1998. He was promoted to be Minister for Home Affairs in August 2002. Ruto has also previously served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitutional Reform in the 9th Parliament.

Musalia Mudavadi

Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi is a Kenyan politician, who served as the seventh Vice President of Kenya in 2002 and as Deputy Prime Minister from 2008- 2012 May when he resigned officially to join the presidential race. He is the current Party Leader of Amani National Congress after decamping from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by the prime minister Raila Odinga in 2012 where before his resignation he served as the deputy party leader.He was third in the 2013 Kenyan general election.

Raila Odinga

Raila Amolo Odinga is a Kenyan politician who served as the Prime Minister of Kenya from 2008 to 2013. He has been the Leader of Opposition in Kenya since 2013. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Langata from 1992 to 2013. Raila Odinga served in the Cabinet of Kenya as Minister for Energy from 2001 to 2002, and as the Minister for Roads, Public Works and Housing from 2003 to 2005. Odinga was appointed High Representative for Infrastructure Development at the African Union Commission in 2018.

Deputy President of Kenya

The Deputy President of Kenya is the second-highest executive official in the Kenyan government. The Deputy President is the principal assistant of the President and deputises for the President in executive functions. Prior to the 2010 Constitution of Kenya, the Deputy President was known as the Vice President. While the Vice President was appointed by the President, the Deputy President is elected as part of a joint ticket with the President of Kenya he or she serves. In addition, unlike the previous situation where the Vice President would usually have a Cabinet Ministry to hold, the Deputy President is not permitted to hold any other state or public office.

National Assembly (Kenya)

The National Assembly of the Republic of Kenya is the lower house of the Parliament of Kenya. Between 1966 and 2013, it served as a unicameral house. In 2013, it became the lower house when the Senate was reestablished.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is a centre-left political party in Kenya. It is the successor of a grassroots people's movement which was formed during the 2005 Kenyan constitutional referendum campaign. This movement separated in August 2007 into the Orange Democratic Movement Party of Kenya and the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya.

The Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya (WDM-K) refers to a political party in Kenya, which originated as a result of the 2005 Kenyan constitutional referendum. It is headed by Kalonzo Musyoka, who ran for president in 2007 and served as the vice-president in the Grand Coalition of Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga. It is now a member of the main opposition NASA.

Jamleck Irungu Kamau

Jamleck Irungu Kamau, also known as "Kabisa Kabisa", was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 2007 to 2017 representing Kigumo Constituency, a sub-county in Murang'a County, Central Kenya. He is the son of Kamau Muchunu from Kigumo.

Isaac Kiprono Ruto is a Kenyan politician. He is the Chama Cha Mashinani Party leader. He was elected the first Governor of Bomet County in 2013 Kenyan General elections. He hails from Tumoi, Sigor in chepalungu constituency and studied political science at the University of Nairobi. He is also a former Chairman of the Council of Governors in Kenya. He has since formed a merger with the ruling party of jubilee.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is a political party that was founded in 1999 by politicians who were at the time considederd to be renegades from the then ruling party Kenya African National Union but was denied registration by the then head of state Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi and most of its then leaders went to other parties by the time of the 2002 general elections.

2013 Kenyan general election

General elections were held in Kenya on 4 March 2013. Voters elected the President, members of the National Assembly and newly formed Senate. They were the first elections held under the new constitution, which was approved in a 2010 referendum, and were also the first run by the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). They coincided with the 2013 Kenyan local elections.

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy was a coalition of multiple political parties, built around the triumvirate of Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Moses Wetangula, to contest the Kenya general elections of 2013. The members of the coalition are Orange Democratic Movement, Wiper Democratic Movement, FORD-Kenya, Kenya Social Congress, KADU–Asili, Peoples Democratic Party, Mkenya Solidarity Movement, Chama Cha Uzalendo, Muungano Development Movement Party of Kenya, United Democratic Movement, Chama Cha Mwananchi, Federal Party of Kenya Following the hotly contested elections that saw Jubilee alliance win, Cord filed a petition contesting the results. The Supreme Court rejected Cord's petition and declared Kenyatta the president-elect.

The National Alliance

The National Alliance (TNA) was a political party in Kenya. It attained its current identity when it was taken over by Uhuru Kenyatta and rebranded as the vehicle for his 2012 presidential campaign.

The Conservative Party of Kenya is a political party in the Republic of Kenya. It did not have much history of electoral success, or even activity, until it was reported that members of the Jubilee coalition of parties intended to convert it into a single party to contest the 2017 General election, within which Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto intend to gain re-election as President and Deputy President respectively.

Jubilee Party Nationalist political party in Kenya

The Jubilee Party of Kenya is the ruling political party of the Republic of Kenya. The party was founded on 8 September 2016, following the merger of 11 smaller parties. During the 2017 election, the Jubilee Party secured a plurality of seats in Parliament and the party leader, Uhuru Kenyatta, was re-elected president. Since January 2019, the party's stability has been threatened by growing infighting.

National Super Alliance

The National Super Alliance, known by the abbreviation NASA, is a Kenyan political coalition of opposition centre-left parties that was formed in January 2017. These parties include the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Wiper Democratic Movement (Wiper), Forum for the Restoration of Democracy - Kenya (FORD-Kenya), Amani National Congress (ANC), National Rainbow Coalition, Progressive Party of Kenya, Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU), and the Muungano Party (MP).
