Montana is a landlocked state in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States. It borders Idaho to the west, North Dakota and South Dakota to the east, Wyoming to the south, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan to the north. It is the fourth-largest state by area, the eighth-least populous state, and the third-least densely populated state. Its capital is Helena, while the most populous city is Billings. The western half of the state contains numerous mountain ranges, while the eastern half is characterized by western prairie terrain and badlands, with smaller mountain ranges found throughout the state.
Dillon is a city in and the county seat of Beaverhead County, Montana, United States. The population was 3,880 at the 2020 census. The city was named for Sidney Dillon (1812–1892), president of Union Pacific Railroad.
Brian David Schweitzer is an American farmer and politician who served as the 23rd Governor of Montana from 2005 to 2013. Schweitzer served for a time as chair of the Western Governors Association as well as the Democratic Governors Association. He also served as President of the Council of State Governments.

Clayton County established that employment discrimination against LGBT people is illegal under federal law. A number of cities also provide protections in housing and public accommodations.
Gregory Richard Gianforte is an American businessman, politician, software engineer, and writer serving as the 25th governor of Montana since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Gianforte served as the U.S. representative for Montana's at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2021.

Nelson Story Jr., also known as Bud Story, was an American politician in the state of Montana who served as Lieutenant Governor of Montana from 1921 to 1925. He also served in the Montana State Legislature in the 1902 and 1910 sessions, as mayor of Bozeman, and commissioner of Gallatin County, Montana. His father was Nelson Story, a pioneer settler in Bozeman. Nelson Jr. was educated at the Shattuck (Minnesota) and Ogden (Utah) Military academies. A businessman, he owned a machine shop and iron foundry, served as vice president of a milling company, and was involved in the gold mining industry. Story died of a stroke while driving in Bozeman, Montana in 1932.

The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections in Montana were held on November 8, 2022, to elect two U.S. Representatives from Montana, one from each of its congressional districts. Prior to this election cycle, Montana had one at-large district, represented by Republican Matt Rosendale. However, during the 2020 redistricting cycle, Montana regained the 2nd district that it lost in 1993. As a result, Montana became the first state relegated from multi-district to at-large status that reclaimed a 2nd representative in the House of Representatives, in which Rosendale ran for re-election.
Angela Veta Russell is an American politician and civil rights activist who served in the Montana House of Representatives from the 99th district as a member of the Democratic Party. Russell participated in the Selma to Montgomery marches and Native American activism. She is a member of the Crow Tribe of Montana.
