The nine brick sculptures are based on creatures mentioned in Dylan Thomas's "Ballad of the Long-Legged Bait". The bricks were made by Dennis of Ruabon, the same firm which a century earlier had produced the exterior terracotta decoration of the Pierhead Building. Commissioned by Cardiff Bay Arts Trust on behalf of Grosvener Waterside. [10]

The work is inspired by the John Masefield poem 'Cargoes'. Sculptures depicting the various cargoes and ships from the poem are attached to the gables and walls throughout Mermaid Quay. Two-dimensional figures of Sybil Williams, founder of the Cardiff-based cycling charity Pedal Power, Jason Stone, an ice hockey player for Cardiff Devils and Lydia Harris, a 10-year-old pupil of Mount Stuart Primary School, laser cut in Corten steel. Three people from the Vale of Glamorgan are commemorated on the Penarth side of the bridge. [28]

Deep NavigationSculptureRoald Dahl Plass2000Stephan GecConsists of two cast iron pillars, modelled on those from a nearby bank building. The first pillar is cast from metal retrieved from the former Oval Basin and includes the names of all of the South Wales coal mines that were operational in 1964. The second pillar is cast from metal retrieved from Tower Colliery and identifies all of the ports to which Cardiff exported coal. William James Bloye was an English sculptor, active in Birmingham either side of World War II. After serving in World War I, Bloye studied and later taught at the Birmingham School of Art. Becoming a member of the Birmingham Civic Society in 1925, he played a significant role as Birmingham's unofficial civic sculptor, contributing to various public commissions. Bloye was a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors, attaining the status of fellow in 1938. His association with the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) included serving as its president from 1948 to 1950 and as the Professor of Sculpture. He retired in 1956 and died away in 1975.

Brevet Lt. General Winfield Scott is an equestrian statue in Washington, D.C., that honors career military officer Winfield Scott. The monument stands in the center of Scott Circle, a traffic circle and small park at the convergence of 16th Street, Massachusetts Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue NW. The statue was sculpted by Henry Kirke Brown, whose best-known works include statues of George Washington in New York and Nathanael Greene in Washington, D.C. It was the first of many sculptures honoring Civil War generals that were installed in Washington, D.C.'s traffic circles and squares and was the second statue in the city to honor Scott.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Grangemoor Park</span> Park in Cardiff, Wales

Grangemoor Park is a public park located between the River Ely and Cardiff Bay Retail Park in the Grangetown area of Cardiff, Wales. Prior to development of the park the area was a landfill site for household waste, which closed in 1994. The park now rises 20 metres (66 ft) above the river and surrounding area with panoramic views over the south of the city.
