Veritas International University (VIU) is a non-profit accredited Christian university in Santa Ana, California. It will relocate to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2023. Founded in 2008, the university began as a seminary before transitioning to a university with the addition of undergraduate and post-graduate degrees. The university now offers doctoral degrees as well. [1]

History

Veritas International University was established by Norman Geisler and Joseph Holden in Early 2008 as Veritas Evangelical Seminary in Santa Ana, California. The founders envisioned a school which would become like Southern Evangelical Seminary for the western U.S. [1]  Beginning with the objective to train Christian leaders specializing in classical Christian apologetics, the seminary expanded its programs to include various degree offerings, including archaeology, Biblical History, Education, and Theology. [1]  

The first classes were held at Calvary Chapel Bible College while it was based in Murrieta Hot Springs prior to their main campus being established in Santa Ana.

Veritas International University was accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) in 2014, and is recognized by the United States Department of Education. [2]

The name change to Veritas International University was approved in late 2017, and implemented in January 2018. [3]

Academics

Veritas International University has nine-degree programs, held within three schools:  Veritas College & Seminary, VIU School of Archaeology, and the VIU Norman L. Geisler School of Apologetics. [4] Each school is part of the university, emphasizing their respective areas of study that includes Christian studies, Biblical studies, Theological studies, Near Eastern archaeology and history, apologetics, missions, and pastoral studies. [4]

The Best Schools and Colleges ranked Veritas International University's graduate program in Christian apologetics as the sixth best in the United States. [5]

Doctrinal stance

Veritas International University has an evangelical doctrinal statement that emphasizes "three legs" of biblical authority:  inspiration, infallibility, and biblical inerrancy. [6] In addition to its approach to biblical studies, Veritas maintains a focus on classical theology, apologetics, and Thomistic philosophy. [7]

Campus

Veritas International University's main campus is based in South Santa Ana, California with a satellite teaching site in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 2023, it announced plans for a relocation to Albuquerque. The university has additionally begun more distance learning programs. [8]

The campus relocated to Murrieta Hot Springs in Murrieta, California from 1994 to Summer 2022. The original Twin Peaks site was converted into a Christian Conference Center. In July 2022, C.C.B.C. returned to the original Twin Peaks site after nearly 30 years away. The conference center was disbanded and merged into the returning Bible College. It was founded as a ministry of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and operates on a 15-week spring and fall semester schedule with summer classes and various internships & work-study opportunities.

Carolina University (CU), formerly Piedmont International University (PIU), is a private Christian university in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Carolina University offers both residential and online programs including dual enrollment, undergraduate, and graduate degrees. F. David Farnell is an American New Testament scholar, Christian minister, and is the new pastor of theological training at Redeemer Bible Church in Phoenix, Arizona. He was formerly professor of New Testament studies at The Master's Seminary. He promotes a conservative approach to New Testament studies. Farnell's works include the book The Jesus Crisis: The Inroads of historical Criticism into Evangelical Scholarship and The Jesus Quest: The Danger from Within. His writings on biblical inerrancy have been endorsed by John F. MacArthur, Albert Mohler, and Paige Patterson. He is also the pastor of Grace Bible Church in Oxnard, California.

Wilbur Moorehead Smith (1894–1976) was an American theologian and one of the founding members of Fuller Theological Seminary.
