The Fourteenth Nagaland Assembly is formed by the members elected in 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election. Election were held in 59 constituencies on 27th February 2023 and 1 member elected unopposed from Akuluto. [1] Votes were counted on 2nd March 2023. [2] [3]

History

Incumbent North-East Democratic Alliance consists Bharatiya Janata Party and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party again gained majority in the house after won 37 (25 NDPP + 12 BJP). [4] [5]

Hekani Jakhalu Kense from Dimapur III and Salhoutuonuo Kruse from Western Angami constituencies became first women MLAs in the history of Nagaland. Both get elected as NDPP candidates. [6] [7]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nationalist Congress Party</span> Political party in India

The Nationalist Congress Party is one of the state parties in India. It refers to the Ajit Pawar faction after the 2023 split in the party when the Supreme Court of India granted the original party name and symbol to the Nationalist Congress Party. It was one of the major political parties in Maharashtra and was a recognised state party in Nagaland and Kerala. In July 2023, majority of the elected MLAs and MLCs of the party led by Ajit Pawar joined the National Democratic Alliance government, however, all MPs except two remained loyal to Sharad Pawar. Biren Singh ministry led BJP government in Manipur. The party also believes in Conservative Christianity and also encourages it.

Devinder Kumar Sehrawat is an Indian politician and former member of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi of India. He has represented the Bijwasan constituency of New Delhi being a member of The AAM AADMI PARTY. He was one of the prominent persons who marched on 31 Jan 2011, the first rally and start of India Against Corruption Movement in Delhi. He was one of the founder member of the AAP. He worked as social and environmental activist. He organised several Maha Panchayats of farmers and was instrumental in inclusion of several pro farmer provisions in the right to fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement act 2013. He filed public interest litigation in High Court of Delhi against the negligence of the school authorities and Govt. officials and got a standard operating procedure issued by the court for the safety of approx. 50 Lakh school children of Delhi While holding the position of secretary of Delhi Gramin Samaj helped the farmers. He was a part of the protest against the Haryana government's move to acquire around 3,800 acres at Bawal for industrial development and got highlighted for the social cause on TOI in march 2013. He tabled the Motion in support of OROP in Delhi legislative Assembly on 25 June 2015.

The North-East Democratic Alliance is a political coalition that was formed on May 24, 2016, by Bharatiya Janata Party. The motive of the new political front was to protect the interest of the people of the region as well as uniting non-Congress parties in Northeast India. Himanta Biswa Sarma was appointed as the convenor of the front.

Salhoutuonuo Kruse is an Indian politician from Nagaland. In 2023, She along with Hekani Jakhalu Kense became the first women from Nagaland to be elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. She was sworn in as a Minister of Women Resource Development & Horticulture in the 5th Rio ministry, making her the first female Minister in the history of the Indian state of Nagaland.
