The formal title of this position is Representative of the United States of America to the European Union, with the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Prior to May 9, 1994, the position was named Representative of the United States of America to the European Communities, with the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. [1]

Stavros Lambrinidis is a Greek lawyer and politician, currently serving as Ambassador of the European Union to the United Nations. He was previously Ambassador of the European Union to the United States from March 2019 until December 2023, European Union special representative for human rights from 2012 to 2019 and Minister for Foreign Affairs in Greece from June 2011 to November 2011.
Kristen Silverberg was the United States Ambassador to the European Union from July 2008 until January 2009. She was nominated by President George W. Bush on April 24, 2008 and confirmed by the United States Senate on June 27, 2008. On July 22, 2008, she presented her credentials. She was succeeded by William Kennard who was nominated by President Barack Obama on August 6, 2009 and confirmed by the United States Senate on November 20, 2009.
William Earl Kennard is an American attorney and former government official. Kennard served as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from 1997 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton, and was the first African American to lead the agency. In 2009, Kennard was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as Ambassador to the European Union, serving until 2013.
Gordon David Sondland is an American businessman. He is the founder and chairman of Provenance Hotels. He also served as the United States Ambassador to the European Union from 2018 to 2020. In November 2019, Sondland testified as a witness at the impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump. After refusing to resign, he was fired by Trump on February 7, 2020, two days after the conclusion of Trump's impeachment trial.
The United States Mission to the European Union (USEU) is the diplomatic mission of the United States to the European Union; it is based in Brussels, Belgium. The US has maintained diplomatic relations with the EU and its predecessors since 1953. The first predecessor of the current mission was the US diplomatic mission to the European Coal and Steel Community in Luxembourg, which opened in 1956. In 1961, the US Mission to the European Communities was established in Brussels, which later became the United States Mission to the European Union, upon the latter's establishment in 1993.
Mary Beth Leonard is an American diplomat. She was the United States Ambassador to Nigeria and the former U.S. Representative to the African Union. Previously, she served as the United States Ambassador to Mali from 2011 to 2014.
David Zalkaliani is a Georgian career diplomat serving as the Ambassador of Georgia to the United States. From June 21, 2018 to April 4, 2022 he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. From January 21, 2021 to April 4, 2022 he was also Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia.
Rockwell A. Schnabel is a Dutch-American businessman who served as the United States Ambassador to the European Union from 2001 to 2005. He previously served as the United States Ambassador to Finland from 1986 to 1989, the Under Secretary of Commerce for Travel and Tourism from 1989 to 1992 and as the United States Deputy Secretary of Commerce from 1991 to 1993.

Nicholas Emiliou is a Cypriot diplomat and jurist. Since 2017, he is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the European Union, based at the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU in Brussels. On 21 April 2021, he was appointed to become Advocate General of the European Court of Justice.
