Prairielands Council (previously Illiana Council) is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America formed in 1991 by the merger of Arrowhead and Piankeshaw Councils. The council serves Scouts in east central Illinois and western Indiana. The headquarters is located in Champaign, Illinois; an auxiliary office is located in Danville, Illinois.

History

At the time the Champaign-Urbana Council was formed in 1919, the Council used a small facility at Weldon Springs called Camp Hatetokwitit, for a majority of its Scout camping. A tract of land outside Oakwood was acquired for the new council camp with financial assistance from the Rotary Club. The camp was founded in 1932 and is named for Robert J. Drake, Champaign-Urbana Council's Scout executive, who oversaw the purchase of the property but died of scarlet fever in 1929 before the camp was opened. Robert Drake is buried with his parents outside of Chicago, Illinois [1]

The camp opened for the inaugural camping season on June 13, 1932. Camp Drake is one of the oldest council-owned and operated Scout camps in the nation. [2] The camp celebrated its 75th continuous year of operation in 2007. [3]

Prairielands Council currently owns and operates Camp Robert Drake, a Boy Scout camp facility located near Oakwood, Illinois (although the property is addressed in Fairmount, Illinois and it is in the school district of Catlin, Illinois). The facility is used primarily during the summer as a resident camp for Boy Scout and Cub Scout units, and a half-week Venturing camp.

The camp facility is in use year-round by Scout units of all types, and is available for rental by other non-profit groups.

The programs at Camp Robert Drake are annually accredited by the National Camping School of the Boy Scouts of America. The camp runs four weeks of camp aimed for Boy Scouts, two half-week camps designed for Cub Scouts and Webelos, and one day camp for Cub Scouts.

Illini Lodge 55, formed by the merger of Waukheon Lodge 55 (Piankeshaw Council) and Illini Lodge 92 (Arrowhead Council) in 1994, is the council's Order of the Arrow lodge.

Greater St. Louis Area Council

The Greater Saint Louis Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America was formed in 1911 and is based in St. Louis, Missouri. The council serves Scouts in the St. Louis Metro area, southeast Missouri, and southern and central Illinois.

Connecticut Yankee Council

The Connecticut Yankee Council of the Boy Scouts of America is located in Milford, Connecticut. It is council #072 and serves 37 towns and cities in Connecticut, located in Fairfield County, New Haven County, and parts of Hartford County.

Seneca Waterways Council

Seneca Waterways Council (SWC) is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America that serves youth in Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, Yates, and Monroe Counties in Western New York. The current Council President is Lew Heisman. The current Council Scout Executive is Stephen Hoitt.

Los Angeles Area Council

Founded in 1915, the Los Angeles Area Council (LAAC) (#033) served most of the City of Los Angeles as well as several other cities in the greater Los Angeles area. It was one of five Boy Scouts of America councils in Los Angeles County, California. Since its founding in 1915, the Los Angeles Area Council has brought its purpose and values to millions of youth. The Council served 54,567 youth in the Greater Los Angeles Area in 2008 alone.

Richard H. Herman is a former mathematician who had served as the Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2005-2009. He previously served there as Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs since 1998. As provost he garnered support for, and administered, a “faculty excellence” program designed to bring established faculty to the institution. Over the course of his administrative tenure, sponsored research at the university increased by more than 50%.

Winnebago Council

The Winnebago Council is a council of the Boy Scouts of America (#173). The Winnebago Council serves Scouts BSA, Cub Scouts, adult volunteers and Venturers in 17 counties located in North Central Iowa. Including: Black Hawk, Grundy, Butler, Franklin, Wright, Hancock, Winnebago, Worth, Cerro Gordo, Mitchell, Floyd, Bremer, Chickasaw, Howard, Winneshiek, Fayette, and Buchanan. We serve over 3,200 youth with the support of 1,600 registered volunteers and more than 150 chartered partners. The Winnebago Council also operates the Ingawanis Adventure Base near Waverly, IA as our resident Boy Scout Camp.

California Inland Empire Council Boy Scouts council in California

The California Inland Empire Council (CIEC) of the Boy Scouts of America was formed in 1973 through the merger of the Arrowhead Area (#048) and Riverside Area Councils (#045). In 1974 Grayback Council (#024) also merged into the new council. In 2006, the council acquired the San Bernardino County portions of Old Baldy Council (#043). The council territory includes all of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Des Plaines Valley Council is a former Boy Scouts of America local council that was headquartered in La Grange, Illinois, United States. In 2014 the council merged with Calumet Council, Chicago Area Council and Northwest Suburban Council to form Pathway to Adventure Council.

The Bay-Lakes Council is the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) council serving eastern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Headquartered in Appleton, Wisconsin, it is geographically one of the largest local BSA councils. Bay-Lakes Council #635 was formed on July 1, 1973, the product of a merger between six east Wisconsin councils. The council is served by Kon Wapos Lodge #635 of the Order of the Arrow.
