Ronnie Jerome Ghent (born January 5, 1980) is a former American football fullback and former head coach of the Central Florida Jaguars of American Indoor Football (AIF). He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2004. He played college football at Louisville.

Early years

Ghent attended Lakeland Senior High School in Lakeland, Florida and was a letterman in football, basketball, and track. In football, he was a three-year letterman and as a senior, he was named as a first-team All-Polk County selection by the Tampa Tribune. Ghent graduated in 1999.

Coaching career

On November 24, 2015, it was announced that Ghent would return to his hometown of Lakeland to serve as the inaugural head coach for the Central Florida Jaguars of American Indoor Football. [1]

The school was originally located on North Florida Avenue and was destroyed by fire in 1927. It is part of Polk County Public Schools. Lakeland Senior High School was the original high school in the city. It also shares its campus with Lois Cowles Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts. The Florida Tarpons were a professional indoor football team based in Lakeland, Florida, out of the RP Funding Center. Originally established in Estero, Florida, and playing out of Germain Arena, they began play in 2012 as an expansion team of the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL). The Tarpons joined the X-League Indoor Football (X-League) during the 2015 season when the UIFL merged with the X-League. They played in the Arena Pro Football (APF) league in 2017 before the league became the American Arena League (AAL) for 2018. For 2019, there was an ownership transition that formed their own Florida-based league, called the A-League, and the team rebranded as the Lakeland Tarpons. The team was removed from the A-League schedule at the start of the 2019 season.

The organization was originally founded in 2015 as a team in the Major Arena Soccer League before expanding into other leagues.
