The Samaritan Health Services (SHS) is a non-profit, integrated delivery healthcare system consisting of five hospitals in Oregon and is headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon.

Operations

SHS operates five hospitals and has over five hundred employed providers in Oregon. The largest hospitals are two Acute Care Hospitals in Corvallis and Albany, and three Critical Access Hospitals(CAHs) in Lebanon, Newport, and Lincoln City.

Samaritan Albany General Hospital ( 44°37′55″N123°06′59″W / 44.63186°N 123.11632°W / 44.63186; -123.11632 ) is a 76-bed medical facility in Albany, Oregon. Services include a level IV trauma center, [6] as well as the first open magnetic resonance imaging facility in the middle Willamette Valley. [7]

It is accredited by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). [8]

Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital ( 44°33′04″N122°54′27″W / 44.5511°N 122.9076°W / 44.5511; -122.9076 ) is a 25-bed critical access care facility at 525 N. Santiam Hwy, Lebanon, Oregon, United States. It provides services to eastern Linn County. [9]

This facility is accredited by the Det Norske Veritas (DNV). [10]

Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital ( 44°37′45″N124°03′32″W / 44.6291°N 124.0590°W / 44.6291; -124.0590 ) is a 25-bed acute care medical facility at 930 SW Abbey Newport, Oregon, United States. [11] Services include a level IV trauma center. [12]

The hospital was built in 1952 as a 17-bed acute care facility. Since then, it has been remodeled and expanded to meet the growing needs of the community. Currently, the hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital, with 380 employees, 110 of whom are nurses, and 120 volunteers. [13]

It is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). [14]

The Pacific Communities Hospital Heliport is located at the hospital.

Governance

In 2018, Doug Boysen, former vice president and General Counsel, was appointed as CEO of the health system. [15] Bob Turngren MD was hired a few months later as Chief Medical Officer.

InterCommunity Health Network

SHS is partnered with the InterCommunity Health Network (IHN) Coordinated Care Organization (CCO). [16] IHN was formed in 2012 by local public, private, and non-profit partners to unify health services and systems for Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) members in Benton, Lincoln, and Linn Counties [17] and covers almost fifty five thousand individuals.

Awards

In 2017 SHS was listed as one of three finalists for the 2017 American Hospital Association Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service, [18] [19] a national award that recognizes hospitals and hospital systems for improving the healthcare of their patients and communities.

In 2018, the Portland Business Journal listed SHS as the Healthiest Employer of Oregon, 5000 or More Employees, ranked by Healthiest Employers Index Score. [20] This was the sixth time it received recognition in one of the categories for Healthiest Employer. [21] The award was created to recognize organizations that are committed to creating a healthy workplace.

Carilion Clinic is a Roanoke, Virginia-based non-profit integrated health care organization. Carilion owns and operates seven hospitals in the western part of Virginia, such as Radford University Carilion, and a joint-venture medical school and research institute with Virginia Tech known as the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute. The system consists of hospitals, primary and specialty physician practices, pharmacies, health clubs and other complementary services. Carilion has more than 13,200 employees with 737 physicians covering more than 70 specialties at 225 practice sites, making it the largest employer in the Roanoke Valley.

Legacy Emanuel Medical Center is a hospital located in the Eliot neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, United States. Founded in 1912, it is one of only two Level I trauma centers in the state of Oregon, and home to the only burn center between Seattle and Sacramento. The hospital is also home to the Life Flight Network (MEDEVAC), the first of its kind instituted on the U.S. West Coast. The 554-bed facility provides a full range of services, including conventional surgery, heart treatment, critical care, neurology/stroke care/brain surgery, and care for high-risk pregnancies. Providence Mission Hospital is a 523-bed acute care regional medical center in Orange County, California with two campuses - one in Mission Viejo, and the second in Laguna Beach. The hospital has designated adult and pediatric Level II Trauma centers in the state of California. Mission Hospital provides cardiovascular, neuroscience and spine, orthopedics, cancer care, women's services, mental health, wellness and a variety of other specialty services. MedStar Health is a not-for-profit healthcare organization. It operates more than 120 entities, including ten hospitals in the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area of the United States. In 2011 it was ranked as the employer with the largest number of local employees in the region.

St. Charles Madras is a non-profit medical center located in Madras, Oregon, United States. Founded in 1967 as Mountain View Hospital, the level IV trauma center has 25 beds. It is the only hospital in Jefferson County and joined the St. Charles Health System in 2013.

Phoenix Children's Hospital is a freestanding pediatric acute care children's hospital located in Phoenix, Arizona. The hospital has 457 pediatric beds and is affiliated with the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. Phoenix Children's also partners with Valleywise Health for a 3-year pediatric residency training program. The hospital provides comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties including inpatient, outpatient, emergency, trauma, and urgent care to infants, children, teens, and young adults 0–21 throughout Arizona and the surrounding states. The hospital sometimes also treats older adults that require pediatric care. Phoenix Children's Hospital also features a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, the only in the state.

Edward C. Allworth Veterans' Home is a skilled nursing facility on 12 acres in Lebanon, Oregon, with spaces for 154 American veterans. It offers skilled nursing services, rehabilitation services and long-term care, as well as care for dementia and Alzheimer's patients.

Banner Desert Medical Center, formerly Desert Samaritan Medical Center, or “Desert Sam," is a 615-bed non-profit, short-term acute care hospital located in Mesa, Arizona adjacent to the border with Tempe, providing tertiary care and healthcare services to the East Valley portion of the greater Phoenix area. It is designated by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) as a Level I trauma center. It is part of the locally based, regional Banner Health system of non-profit hospitals and clinics.
