Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is a 2020 American biographical drama film directed by George C. Wolfe and written by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, based on the 1982 play of the same name by August Wilson. The film stars Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo, and Michael Potts. It focuses on Ma Rainey, an influential blues singer, and dramatises a turbulent recording session in 1920s Chicago.

Mank is a 2020 American black-and-white biographical drama film about screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his development of the screenplay for Citizen Kane (1941). It was directed by David Fincher based on a screenplay by his late father Jack Fincher, and was produced by Ceán Chaffin, Douglas Urbanski, and Eric Roth. It stars Gary Oldman in the title role, alongside Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Arliss Howard, Tom Pelphrey, Sam Troughton, Ferdinand Kingsley, Tuppence Middleton, Tom Burke, Joseph Cross, Jamie McShane, Toby Leonard Moore, Monika Gossman, and Charles Dance.

Kemp Powers is an American playwright, television writer, screenwriter, film producer, and film director. He is best known for his work on the play One Night in Miami, the 2020 film adaptation of the same name, and Soul. His screenplay for One Night in Miami... earned him a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination at the 93rd Academy Awards in April 2021. His work on Soul meant that Powers became the first African-American to co-direct a Disney animated feature.
