Hargeisa is the capital and largest city of the self-declared Republic of Somaliland,a de facto sovereign state in the Horn of Africa,still considered internationally to be part of Somalia. It is also the regional capital of the Maroodi Jeex province of Somaliland.
The Eidagale (Ciidangale/Ciidagale) (Arabic:عيدَغَلي,[which translates to "army joiner"],Full Name:Da'ud ibn Al-QādhīIsmā'īl ibn ash-Shaykh Isḥāq ibn Aḥmad,is a major Somali clan and is a sub-division of the Garhajis clan of the Isaaq clan family. Members of this clan are concentrated in Somaliland and the Somali region of Ethiopia. The Eidagale are part of the four principal clans of the Isaaq clan family. They are the traditional holders of the Isaaq Sultanate since the 18th century. As descendants of Ismail bin Sheikh Isaaq,its members form a part of the Habar Magaadle confederation,and they constitute the largest sub-clan of the Isaaq. They are traditionally nomadic pastoralists,merchants and skilled poets.

Faysal Ali Warabe,also spelled Faisal Ali Warabe,is a Somalilander engineer and politician. He previously served as Director of Planning and Building as well as Regional Director of Somalia's Ministry of Public Works. Additionally,Warabe is the founder and chairman of the Justice and Welfare Party (UCID).
Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud "Silanyo" is a Somaliland politician who was President of Somaliland from 2010 to 2017. He is a long-time member of the government,having served as Minister of Commerce of the Somali Republic,and among other Cabinet positions. During the 1980s,he also served as the Chairman of the Somali National Movement.
Pharo Secondary School,Sheikh is situated near the town of Sheikh in a remote part of the country Somaliland,and a three-hour drive from the country's capital,Hargeisa. The once-renowned boarding school was established in British Somaliland and at independence was considered one of the top schools in the country. It is the birth-place of Somalia's former anthem,Soomaaliyeey toosoo,which was composed by the teachers of Sheikh Secondary School. The school accepted a mere 50 students each year for the 31 years (1958–89) before it was destroyed by the Siad Barre regime,admitting 1,550 people over three decades. It was mostly destroyed in fighting in 1989,and had fallen into further disrepair during the Somali Civil War.
Hussein Ali Dualeh,commonly known as Awil,is a Somali diplomat and politician who served as the Finance Minister of Somaliland,and former ambassador of the Somali Democratic Republic to Kenya and Uganda. Dualeh was appointed as presidential advisor on Foreign Affairs and International Recognition to Somaliland to former President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud and Senior Adviser to the President Muse Bihi Abdi to negotiate with Somalia. He is considered a great expert on the affairs of the Horn of Africa.
The Habr Awal,also contemporarily known as the Awal,and alternately known as the Zubeyr Awal is a major Northern Somali clan of the wider Isaaq clan family,and is further divided into eight sub-clans of whom the two largest and most prominent are the Issa Musa and Sa'ad Musa sub-clans. Its members form a part of the Habar Magadle confederation.

Presidential elections were held in Somaliland on 13 November 2017,the third direct presidential election since 2003. General elections had been scheduled to be held in Somaliland on 27 March 2017 to elect both the President and House of Representatives,but were initially postponed by six months due to the drought condition in the region. The elections to elect the President and Vice President were eventually held separately on 13 November. Incumbent President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud of the Peace,Unity,and Development Party (Kulmiye) did not run for a second term.
Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail Saylici is a Somaliland politician serving as Vice President of Somaliland,after winning the election of 2010 together with Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo. He continued as vice president in the cabinet of Muse Bihi Abdi. Both are members of the Peace,Unity,and Development Party.
Musa Bihi Abdi is a Somaliland politician and former military officer who has been President of Somaliland since December 2017. During the 1970s,he served as a pilot in the Somali Air Force under the Siad Barre administration. In 2010,Bihi was appointed the chairman of the ruling Kulmiye of Republic of Somaliland. In November 2015,Bihi was selected as the party's Presidential Candidate at the 5th annual central committee convention.

The Isaaq Sultanate was a Somali kingdom that ruled parts of the Horn of Africa during the 18th and 19th centuries. It spanned the territories of the Isaaq clan in modern-day Somaliland and Ethiopia. The sultanate was governed by the Rer Guled branch of the Garhajis clan and is the pre-colonial predecessor to the modern Republic of Somaliland.
Somaliland and the United States do not have official diplomatic relations. While Somaliland operates a representative liaison office in Washington,D.C.,it does not have formal diplomatic status under the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Both countries do maintain contact as delegations from both sides have met in the past.
Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge Liibaan is a Somaliland politician and is the current Mayor of Hargeisa,the largest city and capital of Somaliland. He belongs to the Eidagale sub-division of the Garhajis Isaaq clan.
