The 2012 Aleppo Governorate clashes were a series of battles as part of the early insurgency phase of the Syrian civil war in the Aleppo Governorate of Syria.

The Battle of Shadadeh was a three-day-long battle fought between government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Islamist Al-Nusra Front fighters in the city of Shadadeh, located near the Iraqi border.
On 3 October 2012, three suicide car bombs exploded at the eastern corner of the Saadallah Al-Jabiri Square, killing 40 people. At least 122 people were reported injured. The bombs targeted an officers' club, nearby buildings of the Touristic Hotel, the historic "Jouha Café" and the Mirage Hotel near Bab Jnen. Both hotels and the surrounding buildings suffered extensive damage while the Jouha café was destroyed. A small building within the officers' club was also ruined.
On 9 September 2012, car bomb exploded at the Saad al-Ansari district of the Syrian city of Aleppo, targeting al-Hayat hospital near the 7 April Stadium. 30 civilians and 2 members of the security forces were killed and at least 64 people were injured as a result of the car bomb blast.

2013 was the year in which the jihadist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant adopted that name. The group expanded its territorial control in Syria and began to do so in Iraq also, and committed acts of terrorism in both countries and in Turkey.
In early 2016 there was a series of bombings in the mainly Shi'ite town of Sayyidah Zaynab and attributed to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
On 21 February 2016, two car bombs struck exploded in the predominantly Alawite neighborhood of al-Zahra in Homs, Syria. The bombings killed at least 57 people and injured more than 100 others. At least 60 surrounding buildings and dozens of cars were destroyed in the blasts.
The Northern Aleppo offensive was a series of military operations launched by Syrian opposition forces against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and vice versa in the northern Aleppo Governorate, near the Syria–Turkey border, the city of Azaz and the town of Mare'. The offensive is supported by airstrikes against ISIL conducted by the United States-led CJTF-OIR coalition and artillery shelling by the Turkish Armed Forces.
Opposition–ISIL conflict during the Syrian Civil War started after fighting erupted between Syrian opposition groups and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). In early January 2014, serious clashes between the groups erupted in the north of the country. The SDF insurgency in northern Syria is a campaign of armed attacks carried out by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), following the expansion of the Turkish occupation of northern Syria after the early 2018 Operation Olive Branch carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (TFSA).
On 2 June 2019 three IED were detonated by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in northern Syria - one in Azaz and two in Raqqa. Over 30 people were killed, including civilians and dozens of others were wounded. Among the dead were five children.
In November 2019, six car bombings occurred in northern Syria. The bombings mostly happened in Tell Abyad and one in Al-Bab. The ISIL claimed responsibility for one, and the other five were alleged by Turkey to have been committed by the PKK.
On March 30, 2024, a car bomb was detonated in a market place in Azaz, Syria, targeting late-night shoppers. The explosion killed 8 people and injured at least 30. According to volunteer rescue group the White Helmets, two of those killed were children.
