The 1892 Maine gubernatorial election was held on 12 September 1892 in order to elect the Governor of Maine. Republican nominee and former Attorney General of Maine Henry B. Cleaves defeated Democratic nominee Charles F. Johnson, Prohibition nominee Timothy B. Hussey, Populist nominee Luther C. Bateman and Labor nominee E. F. Knowlton. [1]
On election day, 12 September 1892, Republican nominee Henry B. Cleaves won the election by a margin of 12,503 votes against his foremost opponent Democratic nominee Charles F. Johnson, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of governor. Cleaves was sworn in as the 43th Governor of Maine on 4 January 1893. [2]

Hannibal Hamlin was an American attorney and politician who served as the 15th vice president of the United States from 1861 to 1865, during President Abraham Lincoln's first term. He was the first Republican vice president.
The 1964 United States Senate elections were held on November 3. The 33 seats of Class 1 were contested in regular elections. Special elections were also held to fill vacancies. They coincided with the election of President Lyndon B. Johnson by an overwhelming majority, to a full term. His Democratic Party picked up a net two seats from the Republicans. As of 2023, this was the last time either party has had a two-thirds majority in the Senate, which allowed the Senate Democrats to override a veto, propose constitutional amendments, or convict and expel certain officials without any votes from Senate Republicans. However, internal divisions would have prevented the Democrats from having done so. The Senate election cycle coincided with Democratic gains in the House in the same year.
The Silver Republican Party, later known as the Lincoln Republican Party, was a United States political party from 1896 to 1901. It was so named because it split from the Republican Party by supporting free silver and bimetallism. The main Republican Party opposed free silver and supported the gold standard. Silver Republican strength was concentrated in the Western states where silver mining was an important industry. A leading spokesman in the House of Representatives was Willis Sweet of Idaho. Silver Republicans were elected to the Congress from several Western states. In both the 1896 and 1900 presidential elections, Silver Republicans supported Democratic presidential nominee William Jennings Bryan over Republican nominee William McKinley.
