On April 19th, 2024, a riverboat carrying around 300 people, who were en route to a funeral in a village, capsized in the Mpoko River, Bangui, Central African Republic. [2] [3]

Background

In many countries in Africa, including the Central African Republic, many vehicles are usually overcrowded with people, as laws are not really enforced, leading to high death tolls in vehicle accidents.[ citation needed ]

Faustin-Archange Touadéra announced three days of national mourning throughout the entire territory, from April 22nd to the 25th. [4] During the three-days mourning, the flag was flown at half-mast. [5]
