East Barito Regency (Indonesian : Kabupaten Barito Timur) is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It was formed on 10 April 2002 from districts which were formerly part of South Barito Regency. The town of Tamiang Layang is the capital of East Barito Regency, which covers an area of 3,834 km2. The population of the Regency was 97,372 at the 2010 Census [2] and 113,229 at the 2020 Census; [3] the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 115,406 (comprising 59,155 males and 56,251 females). [1]

East Barito Regency consists of ten districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their areas and their population totals from the 2010 Census [2] and the 2020 Census, [3] together with the official estimates as at mid 2022. As of 2022, the total population of East Barito regency is 115,406 people. The population density of East Barito is roughly 30.10 people/km2. The sex ratio in this regency is 105 which can be translated as there are 105 male population for a 100 female one. East Barito is one of the most diverse regencies of Central Kalimantan in terms of religious adherence. This regency is not overwhelmingly Muslim majority and it has the second highest percentage of Christian population in Central Kalimantan after Gunung Mas Regency. [1]

The regency was created on 14 July 1965 by splitting off the districts which had until then comprised the southern part of South Hulu Sungai Regency. The Pangkajene and Islands Regency, is a regency of South Sulawesi province of Indonesia. This town is at a distance of 287 km east of Palangka Raya city, the capital of Central Kalimantan Province. The population of this town is roughly 10,780 people as of 2021.
