Tsofkara (also, Soof-curra, T'sof-ka-ra, Tuck-a-soof-curra, and Witsogo) is a former Karok settlement in Humboldt County, California. [1] It was located above Chinits on the east bank of the Klamath River nearly halfway between Orleans Bar and the Salmon River. In 1852 it consisted of nine houses. [1]
The Bruce Highway is a major highway in Queensland, Australia. Commencing in the state capital, Brisbane, it passes through areas close to the eastern coast on its way to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The route is part of the Australian National Highway and also part of Highway 1, the longest highway route in Australia. Its length is approximately 1,679 kilometres (1,043 mi); it is entirely sealed with bitumen. The highway is named after a popular former Queensland and federal politician, Harry Bruce. Bruce was the state Minister for Works in the mid-1930s when the highway was named after him. The highway once passed through Brisbane, but was truncated at Bald Hills when the Gateway Motorway became National Highway 1 upon its opening in December 1986.
The Little Zab or Lower Zab is a river that originates in Iran and joins the Tigris just south of Al Zab in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The Little Zab is approximately 400 kilometres (250 mi) long and drains an area of about 22,000 square kilometres (8,500 sq mi). The river is fed by rainfall and snowmelt, resulting in a peak discharge in the spring and low water in the summer and early fall. Two dams built on the Little Zab regulate the river flow, providing water for irrigation and generating hydroelectricity. The Zagros Mountains have been populated since at least the Lower Palaeolithic, but the earliest archaeological site in the Little Zab basin, Barda Balka, dates to the Middle Palaeolithic. Human occupation of the Little Zab basin has been attested for every period since then.
A Veiga is a municipality (concello) in the south-east of the province of Ourense in the autonomous community of Galicia, Spain. At 291 km², it is one of the largest concellos in the province. The capital is the town of A Veiga, also known as A Veiga or Santa María da Veiga to distinguish it from other towns and villages in Galicia of the same name. A Veíga is located 150 km from Ourense. The municipality has a population of 1,273 (2005), and a relatively low and decreasing population density.
