Northwest Alabama

Northwest Alabama is a subdivision of the North Alabama region, and includes the cities of Florence, Muscle Shoals, Russellvile, Hamilton, Haleyville, and their surrounding areas in the state of Alabama. The region includes one metropolitan area, the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Area. The county inclusion varies, usually only consisting of the counties of Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Marion and Winston. Fayette, Lamar, and Lawrence counties are sometimes included, however these areas are usually associated with a separate geographic subdivision of the state, such as West Alabama (Fayette and Lamar) and North Central Alabama (Lawrence). When all county populations are combined, the entire five county region is constituted of 234,101 people.

    Florence is a city in, and the county seat of, Lauderdale County, Alabama, United States, in the state's northwest corner. It is situated along the Tennessee River and is home to the University of North Alabama, the oldest college in the state.

    U.S. Route 43 (US 43) is a 410-mile-long (660 km) north–south United States Highway in the East South Central States of Alabama and Tennessee. It travels from Prichard, Alabama to Columbia, Tennessee. The highway's southern terminus is in Prichard, at an intersection with US 90. Its northern terminus is in Columbia, Tennessee, at an intersection with US 31/US 412/US 412 Bus.

    U.S. Route 72 (US 72) is an east–west United States highway that travels for 317.811 miles (511.467 km) from southwestern Tennessee, throughout North Mississippi, North Alabama, and southeastern Tennessee. The highway's western terminus is in Memphis, Tennessee and its eastern terminus is in Chattanooga. It is the only U.S. Highway to begin and end in the same state, yet pass through other states in between. Prior to the U.S. Highway system signage being posted in 1926, the entire route was part of the Lee Highway.

    The Tennessee Valley is the drainage basin of the Tennessee River and is largely within the U.S. state of Tennessee. It stretches from southwest Kentucky to north Alabama and from northeast Mississippi to the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. The border of the valley is known as the Tennessee Valley Divide. The population is around 200,000 and an additional 410,000 commute to the Shoals daily for work, school, shopping, and more according to a recent Shoals publication called "Four Cities, Four Cultures". It has also been known as the Tri-Cities and the Quad-Cities by locals.
