Madakasira Vasantha Padma Srivastava (born 1965) is an Indian neurologist, medical academic and writer, and the professor of neurology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. [1] [2] She is known for pioneering Acute Stroke Programme (Code-Red), a medical initiative for supporting patients afflicted with epilepsy and stroke, [3] incorporating Hyperacute Reperfusion strategies including the thrombolysis program. [4] The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2016, for her contributions to medical science. [5]
Padma Srivastava, born in 1965, [6] secured her master's degree in neurology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1990 before starting her career with her alma mater where she is the professor of neurology. [3] One of her main contributions to medical science is the initiation of the program, Code-Red, at AIIMS which incorporates Hyperacute Reperfusion strategies, reportedly a first in public sector in India. [4] She also contributed to the establishment of a comprehensive epilepsy program at AIIMS and is involved in government-funded research on Stroke and cerebral palsy. She is associated with the SITS-NEW registry for thrombolysis for stroke data from India as well as the SITS-SEARS registry with the Karolinska Institutet as their national coordinator and sits in the councils of National Stroke Surveillance program for India, the National Stroke Registry, the National Prevention Programs for Noncommunicable Diseases of India. Srivastava served as the national president of the Indian Stroke Association during 2013–14. [7] She is a former member of the organizing committee of the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and a visiting professor at the Department of Neurology of the University of Massachusetts Boston. She also sits in many task forces of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Department of Biotechnology and is an external examiner of higher academic courses on neurology of many medical institutions. She is a member of the specialty board for neurology of the National Board of Examinations [4] and the Institute Body of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. [1] She has edited one book, Controversies in stroke care, [8] published over 200 medical papers [9] and articles, [10] [11] contributed chapters to books published by others [12] and has served on the editorial boards of many journals. [4] She is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) [13] where she is also a council member. [14] The National Academy of Sciences, India elected her as their fellow in 2013. [6] She delivered the 2006–07 Achanta Laxmipathy Oration of the National Academy of Medical Sciences [15] and the K. L. Wig Oration of the Association of Physicians of India and is a recipient of Vimla Virmani Award of NAMS. The Government of India awarded her the civilian honor of the Padma Shri in 2016. [5]
Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), formerly Sree Chitra Tirunal Medical Center, is an autonomous medical school and an Institute of National Importance in India established in 1976 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He is well known Brain Tumor Surgeon in India and has treated numerous Indian and International patient all across the globe for Brain disorders. The Government of India awarded him Padma Shri in 2005. Noted neurosurgeon B. K. Misra was his junior at AIIMS Delhi.
The Bidhan Chandra Roy Award was instituted in 1962 in memory of Dr. B. C. Roy by the Medical Council of India. It is presented by the President of India in New Delhi every year on July 1, National Doctors' Day. It is also the highest honour that can be achieved by a doctor in India.

Narayana Panicker Kochupillai, popularly known as N. P. C. U. Velmurugendran is an Indian neurologist, medical writer and the chairman and head of the Department of Neurology at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai. He is an honorary professor at the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati and has contributed chapters to books including Diseases of the Spinal Cord, published in 2012. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to medicine.
Kewal Kishan Talwar is an Indian cardiologist, medical academic and writer, and a former chairman of the Medical Council of India. He is a former director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and is reported to have performed the first implantation of Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy in South Asia. He is also credited with the introduction of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy in India. He is a recipient of several honours including B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian award in the medical category. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2006, for his contributions to medicine. Presently Dr. Talwar is working in PSRI Hospital Sheikh Sarai, New Delhi as the chairman of Cardiac Sciences
Jagjit Singh Chopra was an Indian neurologist, medical writer and an Emeritus Professor of the Department of Neurology at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
Baldev Singh was an Indian neurologist. He was best known for collaborative works with neurologists Jacob Chandy, Balasubramaniam Ramamurthi and S. T. Narasimhan and together they have been credited to be pioneers in development of epilepsy surgery in India. They also helped in establishing the Neurological Society of India in 1951 at Madras. After training in the United States of America, he returned to India and established himself at Delhi. He was presented with the Padma Bhushan in 1972 for his contributions in the field of medicine.
Subramanian Kalyanaraman is an Indian neurosurgeon and a former head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. He was known for his pioneering techniques in stereotactic surgery and is an elected fellow of a number of science and medical academies including the National Academy of Medical Sciences and the Indian Academy of Sciences. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Medical Sciences in 1969.
Ashalatha Radhakrishnan is an Indian neurologist and a professor of neurology at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology. Her research on various neurological disorders have been documented by a number of articles. She has also contributed to several books, including Status Epilepticus: Practical Guidelines in Management, a handbook on Status epilepticus. She was the convener of workshop on epilepsy at the Monsoon Summit 2017 organized by the Kerala Association of Neurologists. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded her the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for her contributions to biosciences, in 2010.
Kurupath Radhakrishnan is an Indian neurologist and epileptologist, who has established R Madhavan Nayar Center for Comprehensive Epilepsy Care, (RMNC) at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) Thiruvananthapuram, India. He has contributed for the resurgence of epilepsy surgery in India during 1990s, after the decline in 1970s. He also served as the director of SCTIMST from 2009 - 2013. After his retirement he worked at the Department of Neurology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, India; and at the Department of Neurology, Amrita Advanced Epilepsy Center, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin, Kerala, India. Currently he is working as a senior Consultant, Department of Neurosciences, Avitis Institute of Medical Sciences, Nemmara, Palakkad, Kerala, India.
Vimla Virmani, also seen as Vimala Virmani, was an Indian neurologist. In 1978, she became the first woman to serve as president of the Neurological Society of India.
Achal Kumar Srivastava is an Indian neurologist and medical researcher. He is Professor of Clinical Neurophysiology in the Department of Neurology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, heads its clinical neurophysiology and ataxia facilities, and is a member of its epilepsy care team.
