1909 United Kingdom local elections

The 1909 United Kingdom local elections took place in 1909 for municipal councils (including Urban Districts), as well as Rural districts. Municipal elections in Ireland took place in January. Municipal elections across England and Wales, and for Londons Metropolitan Boroughs, were held on Monday 1 November. Scotland held municipal elections the following day. [1]

Overall results

The elections were the fourth held for Londons Metropolitan Borough councils. Municipal Reform candidates performed well, and the party won several new councils (most prominently Battersea), solidifying the party's hold on London.

The following table shows the aggregate results for the 28 Metropolitan boroughs in London. [2]

In 1965, the borough was abolished and its area combined with parts of the Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth to form the London Borough of Wandsworth. The borough was administered from Battersea Town Hall on Lavender Hill. That building is now Battersea Arts Centre.

Liverpool City Council elections will be held every four years from 2023. Between 1973 and 2021 elections were generally held three years out of every four, with a third of the council being elected each time. The first elections to the Wolverhampton Metropolitan Borough Council were held on 10 May 1973.

Council elections in England were held on Thursday 3 May 2018. Elections were held in all 32 London boroughs, 34 metropolitan boroughs, 67 district and borough councils and 17 unitary authorities. There were also direct elections for the mayoralties of Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Watford.

The 1896 United Kingdom local elections took place in late 1896 for municipal councils, as well as Rural districts. Municipal elections were held across England and Wales on Monday 2 November, with Scotland holding municipal elections the following day. Municipal elections in Ireland took place later that month, on Wednesday 25 November.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Cardiff County Borough Council</span> Former council in Wales

Cardiff County Borough Council, known as Cardiff City Council after Cardiff achieved city status in 1905, was the elected local authority that administered the town and county borough of Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales between 1889 and 1974. The county borough council was replaced in 1974 by a district council, covering part of South Glamorgan and also known as Cardiff City Council.

The 2022 Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022. One third of councillors—23 out of 69—on Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council were elected. The election took place alongside other local elections across the United Kingdom.
